City Council approves water valve replacement

Duncan City Council met for a few minutes Monday morning to look at two items that could affect the ability of the city to provide water and electric supply as demand begins to pick up.

Approving a change order to install a new valve as part of the water treatment plant total organic carbon reduction project was first on the agenda.

The valve will add an additional $9,121 to the project’s cost, but because of concern about meeting peak demand levels as the weather warms up, City Manager Clyde Shaw recommended approving the item without delay.

The item passed with no opposition.

Considering bids for repair or replacement of an electric transformer at the Plato substation was also on the council’s brief agenda. However, no bids were received at the time of the meeting, leaving the council with an option to table the item until bids come in. It’s an option the council chose and it, too, passed with no opposition. The need to fix the damaged transformer as soon as possible also revolved around concerns about meeting peak demands as summer heat begins.

All council members except Vice Mayor Carl Bowers were present for the special meeting.
